I Was So Broke, I Used To Steal Food – Tems Opens Up In New Interview
Nigerian songstress Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems sat down with British fashion and lifestyle magazine, GQ in an interview where she highlighted her blistering success in recent times as well as her humble beginnings and struggles, especially when she had to steal food to survive.
“There were times when I was not just broke – I was broke and hopeless. I used to steal food. I used to go to my aunty’s house just so she could give me food to take home,” she says.
In the interview, Tems revealed that prior to getting her breakout hit, Try me, she struggled financially to the extent of going to get food at her aunt’s house, sometimes she would need to steal food. The interview would reveal that the reason for her struggles was the responsibility on her to provide for her family and her difficulty in securing a stable job.
The article was not all gloom, Tems revealed she sat on her Beyonce feature for over a year before its release, she further insisted that every artiste she had worked with she had already manifested, including Wizkid and Drake, leader her to believe she and Rihanna would work together.
As for romance, Tems reveals that she has not been in a relationship in a while and that she is not putting herself out there even if her heart is still open to love.
Tems who has not been in Lagos since New Year’s will head back home in December.
