This is Racist – Americans React As Nigerian Government Bans Use Of Foreign Models In Country’s Adverts

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON], being the apex advertising regulatory body has banned the use of foreign models and voice-over artists on any advertisement targeted or exposed on the Nigerian advertising space with effect from 1st October 2022.

This is enclosed in a statement released by ARCON on August 22, 2022 as the country aims at curbing the acculturation of the west through new media, adverts and campaigns.

The Federal Government, has in accordance with its statutory mandates, responsibilities and powers as conveyed by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act No. 23 of 2022 bans the use of foreign models and voice-over artists on any advertisement targeted or exposed on the Nigerian advertising space with effect from ist October 2022. All advertisements, advertising and marketing communications materials are to make use of only Nigerian model and voice-over artist. The statement says in part. 

Reacting to the new developments, some Americans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction over the new policy, especially people of color who suffer the same fate in the World Power nation.

Taking to the comments section of American news outlet, NowThis Politics on Facebook, one Gavin Seim wrote:

Wow, that’s racist (nationalist facism if you prefer) 🙄I’ll be waiting to hear when government controlled markets and creativity ever made our lives better 🤔

Kandice Symister wrote; Interesting…this will be good for their country talent. I like the stance of…if you’re gonna sell to our people, you need to show us not the west. I get it. Look how long we as p.o.c in the US had to fight to see representation of us on screen. So….I get it.
