A video making the round on social media shows the singer in a scuffle with the officers who had  stopped his convoy for a yet-unknown reason.

In a now-deleted tweet, BNXN claimed that the police tore his shirt and boasted that he ‘spat in a police officer’s face and it felt good.”

In response, the police confirmed that singer Buju will be “made to answer” for spitting in an officers face after his entourage got into an altercation with the police during a stop and search.

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin announced that the officers would be sanctioned for their misbehaviour if established while BNXN will “surely answer for his assault on a police officer.”

But the 25-year-old has now explained that his earlier tweet was “an idiomatic expression to say I disrespected a police officer to his face and not the literal way people may have taken it on social media.”

“I do not support violence or abuse against the police in any form,” he added.

The “Kilometre” singer described yesterday’s situation as a “life threatening situation which caused me to lash out due to the physical assault” but explained that the officers involved have been brought to book.

Buju insisted that he was in his right as a Nigerian but asked that his previous tweet be disregarded.

He also thanked the “reputable” policemen who have intervened in the matter and thanked everyone involved for their love and concern.

“I just want to focus on what’s important to me , my music. Thank you for all the love and concern,” he wrote.
