Rihanna’s partner, rapper Asap Rocky has been charged with assault over a November 2021 incident in Hollywood where he allegedly fired multiple shots at a former friend.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced Monday that his office charged the 33-year-old rapper with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences, not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.
“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted,’ said Gascón
Asap who recently welcomed his first child with girlfriend Rihanna, could face up to nine years in prison if found guilty.
News of the alleged shooting broke in April after he was arrested at LAX where the police were waiting for him to get off a plane with Rihanna.
Police say they found multiple weapons at Asap’s home while serving a search warrant following his arrest.
The victim, Terell Ephron, who is a member of the A$AP Mob hip-hop collective, filed a lawsuit against Asap Rocky last week, alleging assault and battery, negligence and emotional distress.
