BNXN Explains Why He Changed Stage Name From Buju
Singer Buju recently changed his name to BNXN (pronounced Benson) and now he is opening up about his decision.
The 25-year-old singer explained that he has decided to go by Benson, which is his surname, due copyright laws.
‘Beauty Underneath Just Understood is what Buju means , I only decided to use my surname Benson as my artiste name to avoid losing all my work to copyrights or whatsoever,’ he tweeted.
‘Safety first but that’s still me and I can’t blame anyone for still calling me Buju. I own it, ‘ he continued.
The ‘Kilometer’ singer born Daniel Benson, first announced the name change in February with a statement posted to social media.
According to him, it became necessary as he was often mistaken for Jamaican singer, Buju Banton.
‘This is to officially inform the general public that Daniel Benson formerly known with the stage name “Buju” (Beauty Underneath Just Understood) will no longer be referred to as the latter,” a statement signed by Orbbayarn for artist’s management read. “Moving forward, he is to be addressed professionally as “BNXN pronounced simply as Benson. This name change will take effect from the 18th of February 2022,’ it reads.
He also changed his handle from @Bujutoyourears to @toyourears on Instagram and @BNXN on Twitter.
Other Nigerian artistes who have changed their stage names in the past include 2 Baba, who used to go by 2 Face, Kizz Daniel who was forced to drop his former name Kiss Daniel due to issues with his former record label and Cruel Santino who used to be called Santi.
