Big Brother Naija star, Mike Edwards, received a sweet tribute from his wife Perri, despite failing to clinch a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Mike, who is the Team Nigeria flag bearer, finished in 6th place in the Men’s Long Jump Event.
Perrie, who is also an athlete, took to Instagram to show support for her husband with whom she shares a one-year-old son, Mathew.
She shared a series of pictures of the family together at the games and a video of Mike competing with the caption: ‘ GREAT EFFORT FROM MIKE @aireyys.
’IT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN THE RESULT HE WANTED BUT WE ARE SO PROUD OF HIM. CLOSE FRIENDS HAVE WATCHED HIS JOURNEY AND STUCK AROUND AND TRAVELLED FROM OVERSEAS FOR THE HIGHS AND LOWS. WATCHING MIKE COMPETE AMONG A WORLD CLASS FIELD AND TO FINISH 6TH PLACE HE IS STILL OUR CHAMP REGARDLESS.’
Mike who barred from representing Nigeria at the games in 2018 because as a dual citizen of Nigeria and Britain, he had represented Britain at 2009 European Junior Championships.
His bid to switch allegiance to Nigeria was rejected by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). He protested by holding up a sign at the Athletes Village which read: ‘Homeless… Dear IAAF please let me compete 4 Nigeria.’
