Mike Edwards Wife, Perrie, Reacts As He Leads Team Nigeria At The CommonWealth Games
Perrie Edwards neé Shakes Drayton, who’s married to former Big Brother Naija star, Mike Edwards, could not hide her pride as she watched him lead Team Nigeria at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
The 33-year-old shared a clip from the ceremony on Instagram on Thursday with the caption:
‘A look of PRIDE…listen it was very different scenes 4 years ago for my husband. Happy to see him as the flag bearer for 🇳 at the Commonwealth Games. It’s been a journey to this point. Very happy for you @aireyys you don’t allow nothing to stop you.’
Perri, who is also athlete and Mike were married in May 2020 and welcomed their son, Mathew in August 2020.
This was understandably an emotional moment for Mike who barred from representing Nigeria at the games in 2018 because as a dual citizen of Nigeria and Britain, he had represented Britain at 2009 European Junior Championships.
His bid to switch allegiance to Nigeria was rejected by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). He protested by holding up a sign at the Athletes Village which read: ‘Homeless… Dear IAAF please let me compete 4 Nigeria.’
Nigeria will be represented by 94 athletes including women’s world record Tobi Amusan and Ese Ese Brume who won a silver medal at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, will compete to win medals for Nigeria at games taking place in Birmingham.
