Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage posted a heartwarming tribute to her late father on Instagram in which she told him that she wishes he was there to see her receive her doctorate.
The 42-year-old received an honorary doctorate degree from her alma mater, The University of Kent on Friday, surrounded by friends and family including her mother and her 6-year-old son Jamil, whom she shares with ex-husband TeeBlizz.
To mark the first anniversary of her father’s death, she took to Instagram stories to share a photo of herself with him and Jamil.
“A year ago today you took your last breath. We all feel so empty without you. Wish you saw me receive my honorary doctorate degree. I miss you so much daddy,” she wrote.
Tiwa announced her father’s death on the same platform on July 19th 2021, leading to an outpouring of warm messages from several celebrities and fans.
“Early hours of this morning you made a peaceful transition.
“You fought till the very end, you really fought daddy, it’s been rough for you these past couple years but you are resting now.
“This is tough on me, I’m so numb, so weak.
