Slain Female Student In Sokoto Buried Amid Controversy, Tears
The remains of Ms. Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of education Wamako, Sokoto have been laid to rest. Daily Post reports.
Today, the female student who was killed by religious extremists for blasphemy was buried at Tungan Magajiya in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State amidst controversy.
Punch reported that the town was thrown into controversy at the burial site of Ms. Deborah as youths hijacked the body, insisting the corpse be ferried back to her family in Sokoto.
Daily Post giving an update, has now reported that Deborah who was killed by classmates for insulting the Holy Prophet (SAW) has been finally laid to rest. This also goes against the Sokoto State Government’s directives that the body is placed in a morgue pending investigations.
The deceased was said to lived with family members in Sokoto since she was in primary school before her death.
Ripple Effects of Deborah’s death
On Thursday May 13, 2022 Deborah Samuel was stoned and burnt to death by religion extremists who were her classmates who accused her of blasphemy against the Holy Prophet.
Deborah’s death sparked outrage across the country as netizens, public figures and religious groups condemn the gruesome act.
Police Arrest Two Suspects
Police in Sokoto state have swung into action after receiving a distress call from the tertiary institution, Daily Post reports.
Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar gave an update in a statement Thursday evening.
He said at about 0900hrs, a distress call was received from Shehu Shagari College of Education.
Some persons have been arrested with more faces spotted in viral video to be ‘nailed soon’ the police chief said.
Sokoto Unrest
Some muslim Youths have reportedly taken to the streets to protest against the arrest of those connected to the death of Samuel Deborah.
The youths also called on the State Government as well as security agencies to as a matter of urgency release those arrested in connection with the killing.
