All The Times Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele Made Headlines For The Wrong Reasons
Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele at 45, is undeniably one of Nollywood’s great and has managed to reach the industry’s echelon as a result of her talent and hard work over the years.
Love for Funke did not start today, her fanbase is rooted as far back as the early 90s when she starred in I Need To Know, a Nigerian family-oriented television series aired on the NTA network.
Call them Wizkid FC but in three folds that span across two generations. Funke Akindele can do no wrong, when she does, her fans take to Black Sherrif’s sprouting chorus in his Nigerian-blown song, Kwaku the Traveller, to pull a defense.
While her fanbase put in the extra shift to defend her, Funke Akindele appears to give them twice the shift in response. Below are moments she made headlines for the wrong reasons:
Breaching The NCDC Rule For Curbing Coronavirus
Nigerian police arrested Nollywood actress Funke Akindele on September 5, 2020 for breaching the coronavirus rules. She was later arraigned in court for hosting a party during the lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 at the country’s commercial capital, Lagos, Nigeria.
The actress and her singer husband pleaded guilty and were both fined N100, 000.
The court also sentenced them to 14 days of community service, which includes visiting 10 important public places in Lagos to educate them on the consequences of non-compliance with the restriction order.
However, her action triggered angry reactions online from her fans after she appeared in an advertisement calling on Nigerians to maintain social distance.
She, however, came out to issue an apology, maintaining that she will henceforth practice what she preaches and help the government in creating awareness to eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic.
Funke Akindele was quickly replaced by her closest rival, Toyin Abraham who has had an upward career trajectory since then.
Bad Boss Scandal
Funke Akindele-Bello over the years, has had complaints filed about her online regarding her treatment of staff. In 2020, her former employee, identified as Cassandra Owolabi, came forward with an over 15-minute video where she recounted the difficult working conditions and horrible leadership style she reportedly faced under Funke. Later, another woman identified as Ifeoma Tess resorted to Twitter with another allegation that the actress doesn’t like paying her workers.
Na wa for Funke Akindele o, how can most of your staff not have anything good to say about you? From verbal abuse to physical abuse and not paying them their salaries. Oga.
Anytime I see her dancing I forget she’s a bad boss who doesn’t like to pay her staff chai. Dance is good.
Funke on the other hand has most times shrugged off these wild allegations. A story that gives some sort of credence to these brazen allegations meted at the Scene One Tv boss is the Toyo Baby-Jenifa drama that lingered for years.
Juliana Olayode gained popularity after featuring as Toyosi aka Toyo Baby in Funke Akindele’s comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary.
The actress reportedly fell out with Funke in 2017 after she demanded an increase in her fee which was said to be N3,000 per episode back then. That led to her exit from the show and a strained relationship with Funke.
First Marriage Failure
The Omo Ghetto and Jenifa Diary Producer also made headlines some years back following their failed marriage with Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede.
Funke revealed in an interview that she got the news that her marriage was going to end while she was on set. On hearing the news, she added that she had almost died.
Additionally, she added that her marriage ended because she was abused emotionally and verbally by her man, despite burying her fame to make her marriage work out.
Current Marriage Saga With Singer JJC Skillz
It’s no news that veteran actress Funke Akindele is in the news again for another reason relating to her marriage. There has been speculation online that she had asked her husband to move out of her apartment following issues she had with her husband regarding missuse of funds.
Her step-son had hinted about the rumors being true after dropping a comment on the social media post that reported the marital crisis rocking Blllo’s home.
The young man who reveal that Funke Akindele is who people thinks she is had disabled all his social media pages except his YouTube channel.
Funke’s husband, JJC Skillz, in an Instagram post that was shared on Monday, April 11, 2022, debunked such a rumor after he penned down a message that indicated that all is well at home. The singer shared adorable photos of himself and his twins, whom they welcomed in 2018.
