Nigerian Musicians Who Performed At Global Sporting Events
Nigerian musicians have continued to put Afrobeat on the world’s map. The likes of Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy and other musicians have worked tremendously in attaining global recognition as well as putting the Nigerian major music genre on the world map.
Davido recently made history by becoming the first Afrobeat star to be featured in the FIFA World Cup 22 soundtrack. However, there are two other famous Nigerian musicians who have also performed at global sporting events.
D’Banj
Nigerian singer D”banji became the main attraction during the Afcon 2013 grand finale following his performance at the 2013 Afcon Finals, which took place on Sunday February 10, 2021.
A collaboration between SuperSport and the Orange Africa Cup of Nations Local Organising Committee made it possible for him to appear as a main feature at the closing ceremony.
His hit song “On Top of the World” was the song that served as the background music for SuperSport’s Afcon 2013 theme piece.
The final contest, which was between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, ended in a 1-0 goal as Sunday Mba scored the only goal, making Nigeria the winner of the 2013 Afcon football competition.

Legendary Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, is one of those prominent Nigerians who have climbed the stage to perform at an international football event.
2baba Idibia shared the stage with Columbian super star Shakira as they thrilled their fans in a pre-final show at the Malobo Club, Johannesburg.
The African Queen crooner had earlier promised to treat his fans to his best music prior to his performance at the 2010 World Cup Final between Spain and Northland in South Africa.
Spain, the European champions, defeated third-time losing finalist the Netherlands 1-0 after extra time in the competition’s final match to win their first world cup title.
Davido
Celebrated Nigerian singer and songwriter, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has become the first Nigerian artiste in History to be featured on the FIFA world cup sound track.
The singer was featured alongside American star Trinidad Cardona and Qatari sensation Aisha on the song Hayya Hayya (Better Together), which was released on Friday, April 1, 2021, ahead of the final draw for the tournament.

While announcing his milestone achievement, the father of three maintained that the country’s national football team didn’t make it to the World Cup in Qatar to compete for the world title, but Nigeria made it to the World Cup due to the fact that he was featured on the official sound track of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
